City of Bradford Winter Meet (25m)

Hi All,

The club will be taking entries for the City of Bradford Meet on Monday 2nd November, this will be held at Shipley 25m pool on the 12th & 13th December.  All squad members are required to enter this meet.

Remember you do not need to race in events you already hold Yorkshire & North Eastern Qualifying times in.  Use this meet as an opportunity to update times on weaker events or have a go at races you have never tried before.

Please be aware that the City of Leeds Xmas Meet (50m) is also on our competition calendar and is held the week after the City of Bradford Meet.  Plan your events wisely over both weekends and limit yourselves to 2 races per session (3 maximum) to allow for recovery time.  I would advise entering the 200m IM at both meets so you can update your long course and short course times.

We will start signing forms now.

City of Leeds October Meet

Hi All,

The City of Leeds October Meet will be taking place at John Charles this weekend.  As this competition is short course there will be enough pool space for the Regional Squads to train as normal on Saturday morning.  The only change to training is that Regional Performance will train short course instead of long course in the 25m pool closest to the diving pit.

Upcoming Competition Entries

Hi All,

Entries for the North Eastern Counties will be taken on Monday 26th October.

Please remember anyone who has qualified for the NER's which is held in Sunderland on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd November should enter ALL events you have qualified.  Even if you have only qualified for one event you should go and compete.
The North Eastern Counties is the biggest competition in Regional Age Groups competition calendar and you will be racing the best swimmers in the North East of England.  Qualifying for the NER's is a big achievement and it would be good to see as many of you there as possible.

Qualification Times can be viewed by clicking the following link;

Anyone who needs to convert times can do so by using the converter below;

Entry forms can be downloaded and printed using the following link;

We will start signing forms now

City of Sunderland Short Course Meet 2015

A great away meet by both Regional Squads.  You are all swimming amazing at the moment and so early on in the season.  We were really impressed with you all over the weekend, especially with the improvement on the underwater speed and distance off the wall on starts and turns.

Well done to those swimmers who achieved North Eastern qualifying times for the end of November and to those who bagged Yorkshire times for the New Year.

A big thank you to the volunteer Team Managers who looked after the swimmers throughout the competition and to the Judges and Timekeepers who helped out to make the meet possible.

With the North Eastern's at the top of Regional Age Groups competition calendar, anyone who has a achieved a time should enter and compete, even if it is only one event.  You have done the hard work and achieved the times so therefore deserve to swim against the fastest swimmers in the North East.

Remember every millisecond you knock off is a step closer to those qualifying times, work every turn in training like you would want to perform them in your race so they are perfect on the day.

We have 5 weeks of work now until our next competition (Sheffield B Grade or North Eastern Counties).  Get stuck in to training, concentrate and work hard on those skills.

Let's go show them how it's done!

Overall……

Regional Development achieved 33 PB's out of 37 Swims & 8 more Yorkshire Qualifying Times for 2016.

Yorkshire Open Meet Refunds

We have been notified by Yorkshire ASA that all swims were overcharged by £1.  We will give all refunds out on Monday 19th October in the Denison Room.

Regional Age Group Start The Season On A High

We were very impressed with the amount of PB's achieved over the weekend and the high level of swimming skills during your races.  Usually this time of year, in early season it is great if swimmers can match their PB's but you guys seem to be smashing them already.  Excellent swimming. Open-mouth smile

Over the next few weeks please make sure you push yourself on the underwater kicking out of the turns.  Underwater kicking is the 5th swimming stroke and is very important part of the race.  Crack this skill and you will almost guarantee yourself a bunch of PB's and bump yourself up a few places at the next competition.

Overall:
Regional Development achieved 80 PB's out of 84 Swims, 1 Gold Medals,  2 Silver Medals, 1 Bronze Medal and 26 more Yorkshire times for 2016. Great stuff.

Help Needed

In order to run our meets, we need your help.

This can be in many different ways; either working on poolside as a competitive steward, helping give out medals, learning to be an announcer, or just to help give out drinks to our officials and visiting clubs.

We also desperately need to train people as officials and we hope to start a new course shortly.

Please speak to Vicki Spencer on the help desk on a Monday evening if you would like to help.

ASANER Winter Championships (25m)

Hi All,

We have received the following correspondence from the ASA North East Region:

The ASA NER Short Course Championships (25m) Senior/Junior and Age Group are due to take place at Sunderland Aquatic Centre on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November 2015.

Due to the poor response from officials, we do not have enough to run both pools at Sunderland.  The ASANER have decided that unless we have sufficient officials to run BOTH pools by FRIDAY of this week - the Age Group Championships will be cancelled and an Open Meet (25m) will be run instead.  The Open Meet will be open to all swimmers who meet the current Senior/Junior entry time.

Final confirmation of this will be made on Saturday 10th October 2015.

If anybody is available and willing to officiate at the above meet, could you please contact Ian Proud (swimming@proudys.plus.com) before 12:00 noon on Friday 9th October 2015.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Yorkshire Championships & Changes to Training

Hope you are all looking forward to racing this weekend.  As we are still in early season training the target this weekend is to be as close to your PB's as possible whilst holding your skills.  Remember work the turns and transitions into strokes.  Smash the underwater work! Try and be first to 15m and then stay in front.  Accelerate into the turns and finishes, the walls are there to help you not slow you down.

Training Changes (Performance & Development)
Friday 9th October Pm -  Training will be just an hour (19:00 - 20:00) to go over some last minute race tactics.  There will be no land training for Regional Development.
Saturday 10th October Am - With nearly 100% of both groups competing over the weekend in Sheffield there will be no training on Saturday morning.
Monday 12th October Am - Both squads will have the morning off to recover from a full weekend of racing.

Please remember it is City of Leeds policy to check in with team managers 30 minutes prior to the warm up.

Arrival Times (Ponds Forge)
Sat & Sun - Am Sessions
Arrive - 07:30
Warm Up - 08:00
Start - 09:00

Sat & Sun - Pm Sessions
Arrive - 12:30
Warm Up - 13:00
Start - 14:00

Swimmers will be given he chance to practice starts and turns during training this week in preparation for the meet.  Please check the draft programme in advance so you know what you are racing at the weekend.

Good Luck to everyone competing!  If you are not competing enjoy your weekend off.
